I've been hiking the Dakota Ridge trail here in Boulder almost every day for years now... and towards the bottom of the trail, there are always magpies.

There were also tons of magpies in our yard growing up in Tahoe. My whole life it seems I've been surrounded by them.

I've always thought they were amazing visually with their super long tail feathers and iridescent blue hues. I think their calls are pretty crazy. Sometimes they sound more like some freaky alien creature than a bird.... bizarre and beautiful.

black and blue as night
i would that I had feathers three
black and blue and white

I saw the gentle magpie bird
in dusky yester-eve
one brought sorrow and one brought joy
and sooner than soon did leave

I just have to say that I absolutely love your style, I would love to figure out how to draw like this, so I'll be watching you closely. Abstract design has always been my weakness in art. Many kudos to you and your beautiful vibrant and enchanting artwork. :hug:

Oh I really love this!!

I like how the birds don't seem to have much anima - they're kind of stuck in time...yet the song/call they emit has such life and flow - really feeling the movement.

I also love the aztec-esque way you did the sun.

I was amazed to open this up and see it was digital too! Really nice.

I love the sun's rays--they're like tetris tiles!--and how you depicted the magpies' calls. You have a very cool, intense style!
